Scope
The past decade has witnessed an unprecedented increase in the intelligent processing of text and audio-visual signals, significantly improving user experience. However, achieving truly immersive multimedia systems requires going beyond conventional modalities by integrating emerging multi-sensorial media—such as haptics, olfaction, human motion, and EEG—with cross-modal interactions. These modalities enhance the diversity of user perception and transform the user’s role from a passive observer to an active participant. Effectively processing these signals and seamlessly incorporating them into state-of-the-art multimedia systems remains critical, requiring advancements across the entire technical pipeline. At the same time, human-centered factors, including ergonomics, perceptual modeling, and usability, must be carefully considered to support practical implementation. In this context, the 2nd International Workshop on Multi-Sensorial Media and Applications (Mulsemedia), which aims to attract contributions related to multi-sensorial media and its applications, will be colocated with ACM Multimedia 2026 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
-Call for Papers
This workshop aims to bring together researchers and practitioners working across the ecosystem of mulsemedia. We invite contributions spanning system design and evaluation, coding and delivery, media analysis and interpretation, multimodal interaction, human factors and ergonomics, and novel applications. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, Mulsemedia’ 2026 seeks to consolidate existing research, stimulate innovation, and help shape the future of immersive multimedia technology. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Mulsemedia systems, environments and datasets
- Human factors, ergonomics, and psychophysical modeling for mulsemedia
- Acquisition, representation, and playback of mulsemedia data
- Coding, delivery, and reconstruction of mulsemedia streams
- Analysis, interpretation, and interaction with mulsemedia content
- Generative AI models for mulsemedia content creation
- VR/AR/MR applications with mulsemedia
- Embodied AI applications with mulsemedia
- Standardization of mulsemedia representation and processing
- Other emerging applications of mulsemedia
Submission
- Paper Format — All submissions to this workshop must strictly adhere to the Regular Paper format. Core requirements include: (1) Use of the ACM Article Template ; (2) Double-column format, double-blind review; (3) The page limit is 8 pages (4–8 pages recommended), with up to 2 additional pages permitted for references only.
- Submission Page — Mulsemedia2026.
- Proceeding — All accepted papers must be presented at the Mulsemedia workshop following the policies of ACM MM 2026. ACM Multimedia 2026 is an on-site event only. This means that all papers and contributions must be presented by a physical person on-site; remote presentations will not be hosted or allowed. Papers and contributions not presented on-site will be considered a no-show and removed from the proceedings of the conference. More details will be provided to handle unfortunate situations in which none of the authors would be able to attend the conference physically.
